DLA Distribution Barstow welcomes new director

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Adam J. Smith became the new director of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Barstow, California, Aug. 23.

Brewing up a retirement plan: a recipe for future success

PHILADELPHIA — The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Future Operations Division Chief Mary Martin has been preparing for retirement during the pandemic, but not how you might think. On August 27, Martin receives a certificate culminating a year-and-a-half program in the science of brewing beer, a passion and post-retirement plan she intends on spending more time on in the future.

Communication across DLA ensures mission success as COVID-19 surge test site support hits the one-year mark

PHILADELPHIA — On August 5, 2020, the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support delivered on its first request for personal protective equipment to supply Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 surge testing sites. A little more than a year and over 13 million lifesaving items later, the mission is as important as ever.

But one of its major subordinate commands has been around for much longer, contributing over 200 years of warfighter and whole of government support to the agency’s great legacy. DLA Troop Support can trace its roots back to the early 1800s and the construction of the Schuylkill Arsenal.

Fueling DoD’s northernmost installation

PITUFFIK, Greenland — Once a year, when the weather and ice conditions allow, DLA Energy experts plan for the delivery of fuel to the Defense Department’s northernmost installation, Thule Air Base, Greenland. In late July, DLA Energy quality assurance specialists took advantage of the warmer weather to make the delivery.

DLA, SOUTHCOM deliver mobile hospital to Suriname

PHILADELPHIA — The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support provided a mobile hospital package to U.S. Southern Command, who officially donated it to the country of Suriname during a ceremony July 23 to assist in their COVID-19 relief efforts. The field hospital was procured by DLA Troop Support’s Construction and Equipment supply chain for the Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Assistance Program, or HAP, and is part of a multi-phase effort to assist Caribbean, Central American and South American nations in the pandemic.
