Contractors prepare to transport more than 14,000 pounds of lead acid batteries from Thumrait Air Base to a recycling facility in Oman.

Thumrait Air Base, Oman — After more than a year, lead acid batteries used to support U.S. operations in Oman are being disposed of again thanks to new capabilities there and teamwork between two of the Defense Logistics Agency’s major subordinate commands.

Excess to the rescue

Battle Creek, Michigan — Equipment from DLA Disposition Services helped save lives as Nebraska recently faced its worst flooding of the past 50 years.

Leaders share benefits of divestiture

Jacksonville, Florida — Senior leaders for DLA Disposition Services joined Thomas W. Harker, assistant secretary of the Navy for financial management and comptroller, and Navy Vice Adm. Dixon Smith, deputy chief of naval operations, fleet readiness and logistics, for their audit roadshow March 27 and 28.

Generators arriving at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office await use at a new training facility or whenever they might be needed for disaster response and rural investigations.

Specialized training program helps new employees thrive in the Subsistence supply chain

PHILADELPHIA — As a former intern in the now, Defense Logistics Agency Pathways to Career Excellence program, these are feelings that Bill Blake knows very well. So he decided that he would do something to help ease the transition for those participants who came after him.

What is this? A Naval Air Station Patuxent River anechoic chamber from the 1960s – enclosing a space so quiet that the decibel level inside is measured in the negative range – just one of thousands of outdated or unneeded items DLA expects to receive from the U.S. Navy during the course of its mammoth upcoming equipment divestiture project.

Agency assists with Navy property accounting

NAS PATUXENT RIVER, Md. — DLA disposal reps are helping the U.S. Navy create a property divestiture playbook for its upcoming "Materiel Clean Sweep."

Agency rallies to support Navy’s critical part need

Warner Robins, Georgia — Two major subordinate commands of the Defense Logistics Agency worked together quickly when the Navy called for help acquiring critical aviation parts

Stranded hospital staff and family members are loaded into a former military truck to be transported home, away from flood waters in Fremont, Nebraska. After the emergency is over the truck will be converted for use in firefighting and then issued to a volunteer fire department.

Fremont, Nebraska — As the flood waters rose in Nebraska, equipment provided by DLA Disposition Services was used to rescue people from the flood waters.

Battle Creek, Michigan — Runners from the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center and Battle Creek’s Michigan Air National Guard Base tracked the numbers in their time March 14 as they honored one of the world’s most famous numbers -- 3.14.
