New plan, ombudsman focus on strengthening industry engagement

For many years, the Defense Logistics Agency has sought opportunities to engage with its industry partners and adopt their best practices. Now DLA’s Acquisition Directorate has a new DLA Industry Engagement Plan and an ombudsman to help implement the plan’s features.

Generators provided by DLA Troop Support await airlift by helicopter from Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, to Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The generators are part of the ongoing efforts to restore power to the islands devastated by Hurricane Maria

Power Projection

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — Months after three hurricanes hit Puerto Rico, DLA Troop Support is still hard at work, helping Americans regain electrical power with the help of new generators.

A soldier with 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), fires the new M17, or Modular Handgun System, at the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) indoor range. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), the world’s only air assault division, is the first unit in the Army to field the service’s new handgun which replaces the M9 pistol, the standard Army sidearm since 1986.

A new office at the Defense Logistics Agency will focus on getting more value of the data collected across the agency by analyzing the information and looking for ways the data can inform management decisions.

End-of-year printing completed early and on budget

The Defense Logistics Agency completed the 2017 end-of-year printing for Defense Finance and Accounting Service ahead of schedule and on budget, marking the fifth year the agency has done the job. Over 4.8 million tax and account statements, 2.6 million ACA statements, and 2 million Retired and Annuitant newsletters were produced and packaged by DLA over just six and a half weeks.

DLA's participation in the WRP has almost tripled since 2015, from 38 to 100 slots.

WRP gives supervisors pool of qualified candidates to fill workforce gaps, build stronger teams

Of the 1,010 WRP interns the agency has temporarily hired since 1995, 128 have been permanently hired through the noncompetitive “Schedule A” authority or the agency’s Pathways to Career Excellence Program, a two-year program designed to train entry-level personnel for subsequent advancement.
