‘Never borrow from yourself’: Customer account specialist shares best advice of his 50-year career
COLUMBUS, Ohio — This week marks five decades since a young Chester Parker entered an Army recruiting center and embarked on a federal career that took him around the world. Today, Parker is a customer account specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Land Customer Operations. Flag Precedence: Why the Marine Corps is senior to the Navy
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Anyone who has attended a military event or sat in a briefing where the Service flags are displayed should know that the order of precedence goes from left to right. The National Ensign followed by the Army, Marine Corps, Navy…wait. What? The Marine Corps is senior to the Navy in order of precedence even though it is an underling to the Department of the Navy? Is it because we can do more pull-ups? Run farther? Carry more weight? Have better looking uniforms? No. It’s a little debatable but seems to stem from a litany of historical events.
Honoring their sacrifice: Marine Corps turns 245
COLUMBUS, Ohio — This year we celebrate the 245th Birthday of our Corps. On Feb 23, 2020 we commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima and the raising of our flag on Mount Suribachi. Iwo was a bloody, 36-day long chapter in the World War II Pacific saga as our brothers fought and died for control of the tiny atoll.

Land and Maritime Electronics Product Testing Lab gets new battery evaluation capability
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime expanded the capacity of its Electronics Product Test Center with the grand opening of a new in-house battery testing facility Oct. 26. Progressing from a vision more than 10 months ago the new facility is the tangible result of a lengthy team process purposed to improve operational efficiency while also saving money.

COVATTA caps Navy birthday celebration at DLA Land and Maritime
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The U.S. Navy celebrated its 245th Birthday and the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime joined the festivities with a trimmed down version of its fun-themed cardboard regatta. A celebration staple for the last several years, the COVID-19 health emergency has required health and safety adaptations that have scaled down this year’s version.

September orientation introduces 50 new associates
COLUMBUS, Ohio — September 23 was the first day of the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime New Employee Orientation for 50 new employees but this orientation was different than previous months. Participants were able to log in via WebRTC and use their webcams to see presenters and fellow employees instead of logging in to watch the PowerPoint presentations. This adjustment made the two-day orientation more interactive.
