Pinwheel Parade educates, raises awareness of effects of child abuse
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A sense of normalcy was in the chilly morning air as the first Pinwheel Parade in two years stepped off from the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Child Development Center April 26. Children from the CDC hopped, walked, waddled and rode around the block waving their pinwheels escorted by DSCC Police, parents and CDC staff members.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ethics training is often thought of as a dry and boring requirement, but the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Legal Office livened it up a bit with an interactive hybrid event on Oct. 7 featuring a panel of Land and Maritime leaders from across the enterprise recounting ethical challenges they have faced in their careers.

Engineers rally over Sailors to win Navy’s annual regatta
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Bullship went belly up and a fast-moving shark named Hat Trick prevailed at Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s 4th annual Navy Cardboard Regatta held Oct. 11 at DSCC. The race is held annually on the U.S. Navy’s birthday and showcases a range of watercraft created by Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, veterans and civilians using nothing more than duct tape and cardboard. The race is open to all tenants and this year’s cardboard fleet featured a dozen teams from DLA Land and Maritime, the Navy Recruiting District Ohio and the DFAS– Columbus.

DSCC associate saves life on commute home
COLUMBUS, Ohio — We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s all about being in the right place at the right time,” but these words couldn’t be truer for Daniel McCombs. It was dark outside and he was focused on ensuring the safety of the witnesses. This is when he noticed the car on flames and heard someone was still inside, he immediately went into response mode – trying to figure out how to save the driver.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Communications Line of Business and EcoSystem Chief Robert Reed officiated the Defense Information Systems Agency-Columbus Retirement Ceremony Sept. 25 to celebrate 22 retiring employees. The employees were from the Infrastructure Directorate, Services Directorate, and Development and Business Center.

Prepare to log in to your phone starting October 12
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime associates will soon experience changes to phone use as part of the Agency’s deployment of new telephone services. Starting Oct. 12, DLA Information Operations will implement the Extension Mobility feature for Enterprise Voice over Internet Protocol systems in Columbus – joining other DLA major subordinate commands to make the move in recent months. Some phone numbers are exempt from the roll out, including conference rooms, emergency services, command and other identified telephone lines.

DPAA official talks challenges, progress in accounting for America’s missing
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Federal Community commemorated Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Recognition Day Sept. 21 at the Defense Supply Center Columbus. Since 1986, the third Friday in September is set aside to remember those taken prisoner or reported missing in America’s conflicts. This year’s featured speaker was Jack Kull, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s Strategic Coordinator for Southeast Asia.

DLA Land and Maritime wraps up food drive, launches pledge campaign
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and the Defense Supply Center Columbus recently showed community support through food drives and charitable giving. The DSCC workforce concluded a month-long food drive, collecting 9,143 pounds of goods that will go on to support more than 525,000 individuals in Central Ohio.
