Vendor matchmaking events strengthen DLA small business partnerships
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Office of Small Business Programs helps small business owners learn the ropes of federal contracting. One of the ways the office has continued to innovate is through vendor matchmaking opportunities.
DSCC plants saplings at MWR Sports Park
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Supply Center Columbus Installation Management Team planted 50 tree saplings at the DSCC MWR Sports Park this summer. The saplings were donated through an Urban Tree Project partnership in consult with the City of Columbus and the Urban Tree Master Plan Project to identify sites for potential tree plantings and expand the city’s existing tree canopy.

Department of Defense awards Land and Maritime electronics engineer for advancing resistor technology
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Electronics Engineer Andrew Ernst was awarded the Department of Defense’s Defense Standardization Program Award for fiscal year 2020 for his outstanding leadership during the development of a new specification impacting bulk metal film chip resistors for high reliability and standard reliability applications.

Puget Sound focuses on reducing customer wait times, improves processes
BREMERTON, Wash. — Customers have been the focus for the past three years at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Puget Sound detachment. The DLA Maritime - Puget Shop Stores item managers have worked diligently to improve customer support by driving down the not-in-stock or empty bin rate, reducing the risk of costly work stoppages at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

Veterans serving veterans, giving thanks across military generations
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Many Americans gathered with family and friends to give thanks last week; however, members of the DLA Land and Maritime family met with another family to give thanks this season – veterans. The 13-member group of active duty and retired service members led by the Joint Reserve Force supported the Columbus VA annual Thanksgiving feast for area veterans. The event was held at the American Legion Post 144 on South High Street Nov. 16.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Marine Corps celebrated 243 years of service to the nation during a birthday celebration at the Defense Supply Center Columbus Nov. 7. “The U.S. Marine Corps has a long, proud history of service defending America’s liberties and ideals dating back to the foundation of our country,” said Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Deputy Commander Steve Alsup opening the program. “Through multiple conflicts, the valor and courage of the Corps has been battle-tested and proven.”

Fire Prevention Week: Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fire Prevention Week was Oct. 7 - 13. It was first established in 1922. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge issued the first proclamation for fire prevention week, making it a national observance. DLA Columbus Fire and Emergency Services recognizes the importance of fire prevention and fire safety education. FES holds several specialized events each year during fire prevention week.
