Chief of Staff's Travel Log: Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park

Took a trip to Metro Park’s Battelle Darby Creek, southwest of Columbus. This place is a gem! Well groomed – and wide – gravel trails are easy-to-moderate and in great condition. There are views of the Darby Creek, running fast now as we get into Spring.

Defense Supply Center Columbus provides COVID-19 vaccine to workforce

After weeks of coordination, Defense Supply Center Columbus has begun COVID-19 vaccinations for DSCC personnel. First doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were administered March 30. Partnerships between the Defense Logistics Agency, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Ohio Army National Guard resulted in the activation of the local vaccination site.

Chief of Staff’s Travel Log: Hocking Hills

Visited Hocking Hills this past weekend. Thanks to some great recommendations. Located about one hour from Defense Supply Center Columbus, Hocking Hills offers a variety of services for outdoor activity. While we only hiked, the full list of available activities is really impressive.

Passing of former commander of the Columbus supply center, 82

Former Defense Construction Supply Center commander and retired Army Maj. Gen. John P. Dreska, who led the merger of four separate military service commissary systems into one efficient worldwide agency as the first commander of the Defense Commissary Agency, passed away March 15 after a brief illness. He was 82.

DSCC Toastmasters Clubs to host joint meeting, competition March 31

The Defense Supply Center Columbus is home to three Toastmasters International Clubs and this week anyone assigned to the installation will have the opportunity to see how Toastmasters may benefit them when the three clubs host a joint meeting and competition.

Defense Supply Center Columbus celebrates Women’s History Month

Defense Supply Center Columbus celebrated its Women’s History Month Program virtually March 24 and featured Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Commander Navy Rear Adm. Kristen Fabry as its guest speaker. The event was live streamed and the theme for this year’s program was Making Monumental History in 2021.

U.S. Navy Capt. Dinis Pimentel joined the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime leadership team as chief of staff this month following the departure of Air Force Col. Samuel Payne for his new assignment at DLA headquarters.

The Defense Logistics Agency recognized two DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs Specialists for garnering top awards during the 2020 DLA Journalism Award competition. The competition is held annually and showcases DLA’s most effective journalism contributions to the DLA mission.

The Defense Supply Center Columbus Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity African American Employment Program commemorates Black History Month with a two-part series recognizing Hanford Village, a hidden gem in the local community of Columbus, Ohio. This year’s national theme is “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, Diversity.” The second part of this series focuses on the identity and diversity within the black families in Hanford Village.
