Federal workers from Columbus and Central Ohio filled the ballroom at Villa Milano May 5 for the 2016 Excellence in Government Awards luncheon. Hosted by the Federal Executive Association, the awards luncheon is held annually in conjunction with Public Service Recognition Week.

Police officers at Defense Supply Center Columbus are hosting a variety of events throughout the week of May 15-21 to recognize the significance of Police Week, including a wreath laying ceremony, a 5k run, an information booth, and a cookout honoring the sacrifices made by the men and women who protect the installation.

DSCC buzzing with activities as kids celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day

Under overcast skies the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Take Your Child to Work Day kicked off in the building 20 auditorium for the more than 150 children ages 9-17 and their parents. Activities included safety presentations to raise awareness, physical activities like dodgeball, basketball, jump rope, and a visit to Land and Maritime’s Electronics Testing Lab.

Denim Day brings awareness to sexual assault

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day was an event which encouraged people to wear jeans (denim) to help raise awareness and promote prevention of rape and sexual assaults. Land and Maritime leadership approved Wed., April 27th as a command sponsored opportunity to show support for Denim Day.

Urgency drives DLA Puget Sound team in maintaining ballistic-missile submarines

The design of the Ohio-class submarine allows the vessel to operate 15 or more years between major overhauls. On average, the submarines spend 77 days at sea followed by only 35 days in-port for maintenance, creating urgency for on-shore personnel who must ensure the vessel is ready when called back to action.

DSCC Shred Day accomplishes goal

Defense Supply Center Columbus held its annual Shred Day April 20 on the installation. Associates were encouraged to bring anything they wanted shredded, including personal and work documents. DSCC’s Environmental Division processed 7.56 Tons of paper, which translates to saving 129 trees and 38 cubic yards of landfill.
