Luis Pena supports post-Maria Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, PR. — Luis Pena serves as the Defense Logistics Agency's lone civil servant in Puerto Rico. And his job - helping warfighters get rid of used equipment and scrap - got a lot more challenging after the 2017 hurricane season.

Soldiers unload serviceable equipment onto pallets for turn in to Sierra Army Depot that will be inventoried back into the Global Combat Support System.

Soldiers purge excess in Clean Sweep event

Fort Hood, Texas — Defense Logistics Agency employees help Fort Hood units purge excess items as they help Army personnel properly identify controlled property and ensure its proper disposition.

Exercise tests EOD and security forces

Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar — Defense Logistics Agency personnel in Qatar helped airmen from 379th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron and 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight collaborate on a training exercise recently.

Personnel use a large forklift to lift a vehicle and let it roll after being dropped to shake loose any ammunition that may have been left behind in the vehicles before any unfired rounds can cause an accident during disposal.

Three years of living less dangerously

Bagram, Afghanistan — While people enjoy being recognized for what they have done, the Defense Logistics Agency safety program recently recognized those supporting DLA Disposition Services operations in Afghanistan for something they did not do for almost three years – lose work time from accidents.

Training helps warfighters deal with variety, bulk turn-ins

Gimcheon, South Korea — Team members at DLA Disposition Service sites are continuing to offer orientation and training whenever they can help make it easier for warfighters to dispose of excess items.

Contractors pump used foam making material from a hangar’s fire suppression system out of the catch basins into their vacuum tank trucks to transport for disposal.

Events offer updates on Network Optimization

Battle Creek, Michigan — Network Optimization was a major topic during two events in February as updates on the initiative were shared with the workforce.

Disposal turn-in training provided by DLA Disposition Services staffers at Guam helped inbound Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11sailors handle excess construction materials left by the previous battalion so Seabee operations can begin.

Site training enables Seabee unit to begin its mission

Camp Covington, Guam — When Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11’s detachment arrived at Camp Covington, Guam, it got some on-site help from DLA Disposition Services staff

Elementary students in Drummond, Oklahoma, work in their new computer lab. Their district acquired 114 desktop units from Vance Air Force Base via DLA. Older students installed operating systems, drivers, software and network switches to prepare the machines for reuse.
