Troop Support resilience: Employee changes life through fitness

Philadelphia — Seven years ago, Matthew Eckenrode, an Industrial Hardware contract specialist, saw a photo of himself on Facebook and he did not like what he saw. It was at that moment that he decided to make changes and pursue a healthier lifestyle.

PHILADELPHIA — More than 100 Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees were recognized for various achievements during the quarterly awards ceremony June 14.

IH Academy connects the dots for new employees

PHILADELPHIA — It is always good to know how your job fits into an organization’s big picture, a Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Industrial Hardware branch chief said during a supply chain orientation June 1.

After the Navy took ownership of the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), the supply department works to feed sailors aboard the destroyer May 20 in Bath, Maine. The Zumwalt’s inaugural dinner included lobster tail, crab and filet mignon.

Subsistence delivers lobster tails for inaugural dinner aboard USS Zumwalt

PHILADELPHIA — The inaugural dinner aboard the Navy’s newest guided-missile destroyer included 160 pounds of lobster tails that were delivered just in time, thanks to the DLA Troop Support Subsistence team.

Troop Support helps power FEMA with new generators contract

PHILADELPHIA — An entire region can lose electricity when a disaster strikes. A new DLA Troop Support contract for power generators aims to reduce the time affected communities are left in the dark.

DLA Troop Support Medical employees meet with customers at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan during a visit to Pacific Region customers in May. The visit was an opportunity to provide face-to-face customer service to military hospitals in the region.

PHILADELPHIA — Being able to meet with customers in person allows a better flow of communication, a Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Medical supply chain division chief said about a visit last month to customers in the Pacific region.

PHILADELPHIA — More than 75 DLA Troop Support employees participated in the second annual Federally Employed Women's 5K Walk/Run May 25.

Employees remember Pearl Harbor nurses during Memorial Day ceremony

Philadelphia — Naval Support Activity Philadelphia employees heard stories about military nurses that survived the attack on Pearl Harbor as part of a Memorial Day observation May 26.

Washington National Guard learns language of DLA food support

PHILADELPHIA — When the Washington Army National Guard decided it needed a better way to provide food to guardsmen, it reached out to the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence team.

Elias and Bec Dungca and their two sons, Elijah and Isaiah, lost most of their belongings in a fire Oct. 24, 2014. Through faith, family and friends, they were able to recover and return to their normal lives.

Division chief overcomes fire with faith, support from co-workers

PHILADELPHIA — Elias Dungca looked at his apartment on fire and knew that he was going to lose everything in it. His faith, family and friends helped Dungca’s family resiliently overcome the fire that destroyed their home in October 2014.

Spring Fling celebrates teamwork in Subsistence

PHILADELPHIA — The Subsistence sensing team hosted their first event of the year with a Spring Fling, offering employees an opportunity to “play hard because we work hard,” said event coordinator, Kelly Parker.

Members of the DLA Troop Support Ricoh Multi-Functional Devices Support team received the gold medal in the Outstanding Administrative Support Accomplishment category during the FEB Excellence in Government Awards May 12 in Philadelphia. The team took over the maintenance of agency printers and saved the organization more than $150,000.
