DLA delivers flu vaccine to warfighters in the southern hemisphere

The Defense Logistics Agency received 87,980 doses of a flu vaccine April 28 intended to support warfighters in the southern hemisphere to meet Department mandates. DLA Troop Support’s Medical directorate’s $1.25 million contract is in support of the March 2020 Defense Health Agency memo that requires service members stationed or performing duty in the southern hemisphere to receive an additional flu vaccine that targets strains affecting that region.

Philadelphia-based DoD agency delivers life-saving COVID-19 medical supplies to India

A Philadelphia-based government agency is enabling support to India through the acquisition of medical supplies as part of the Defense Logistics Agency’s effort to help meet urgent health needs there. DLA Troop Support, located in northeast Philadelphia, worked with interagency partners to coordinate two shipments of supplies from Travis Air Force Base, California, April 28 and 29 that included 702,400 test kits and 84,000 N95 masks so far. A third shipment third with oxygen concentrators, additional test kits and N95 masks left April 30, and a fourth shipment is scheduled to arrive in India today. Planning is ongoing for additional flights to send more supplies.

DLA, SOUTHCOM partnership provides humanitarian support for COVID-19 relief

The Defense Logistics Agency partnered with the U.S. Southern Command to deliver $1.3 million worth of life-saving pharmaceuticals to the Paraguay Ministry of Health for urgent treatment of intensive care patients with COVID-19. “This effort represents a whole-of-government approach [including] the Department of State, USSOUTHCOM, and DLA to strengthen partnerships and counter threats in our shared neighborhood,” SOUTHCOM Director of Logistics Marine Col. David Gibbs said.

The goal is to provide an organizational standard of training for new employees, and complement existing training programs to result in more equitable learning opportunities for hands-on training.

Indo-Pacific Command Surgeon visits, gains insight on DLA Troop Support

The Navy’s Command Surgeon for the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Navy Rear Adm. Pamela Miller, visited Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia April 6, to learn about the agency’s logistics processes and warfighter support. As the Command Surgeon for the military’s U.S. Indo-Pacific region, DLA is the primary logistics provider for Miller and warfighters in the region, from food and uniform items to repair parts. Though specifically in charge of the Indo-Pacific’s medical mission, she wanted to get a holistic view of support to the region.
