Giving back goes beyond brightly colored bows and wrapping paper at DSCR

On any given day, the bays at the fire department on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, are normally filled with giant red fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. But, once a year for a two-hour time frame on a pre-selected day in December, this year it was the 12th, children’s bikes and brightly wrapped Christmas gifts transform the bays into a Santa’s workshop as part of the 2019 Angel Tree program.

Close to 45 Marines, sailors and Department of Defense civilians from around the country and as far away as Japan, converged on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, for the Defense Logistics Agency Marine Aviation Wholesale Resident Course Oct. 28-30. This is the second year the course was held in Richmond.

Navy RDML Kenneth Epps, Deputy Chief of Staff for Fleet Ordnance and Supply/Fleet Supply Officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia, traveled to Defense Logistics Agency Aviation on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Sept. 25, to meet with DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. David Sanford, as well as other senior leaders.

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. David Sanford made his first trip to DLA Aviation at San Diego, California Sept. 3. Sanford assumed command of DLA Aviation in July.

Active shooter awareness training held at DSCR

Note: This training was held a few days before active shooter situations in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, left 31 people dead and more than 50 injured in less than 24 hours. Nine people killed when a gunman opened fire inside a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Twenty students and six staff members killed after a 20-year old man shot them inside Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. A night of partying at Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida, turned tragic on June 12, 2016 when a man walked in and opened fire, killing 49 and injuring close to 60 more.

Maurice Sanabria, chief, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Command Support Directorate’s Command Programs Office was bestowed the Excellence in Service Award for 2019 by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for his accomplishments in the advancement of diversity/inclusion and for his work in the community

Sanford assumes command of DLA Aviation
