Take two … minutes to change your clock and your smoke alarm batteries

Daylight Saving Time is almost here, and when you change your clocks on Nov. 3, make sure you change the batteries in your smoke detectors, too.

Change your clock, change your battery

As we enter the fall season, Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4. According to a National Fire Protection Association fact sheet for smoke alarms in U. S. home fires, fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate: • almost half (46 percent) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries, • nuisance alarms were the leading reason for disconnected smoke alarms, • dead batteries caused one-quarter (24 percent) of the smoke alarm failures, and • only seven percent of the failures were due to hardwired power source problems, including disconnected smoke alarms.

Susquehanna’s Dixon awarded 2017 Spirit of Courage Award

Jennifer Dixon, distribution process worker at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, has been awarded the 2017 Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage Award, during a ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 26, for her swift thinking and fast action after seeing a vehicle accident.
