Media Advisory: Defense Federal Community to celebrate Air Force birthday

The Defense Supply Center Columbus will celebrate the 72nd Air Force Birthday Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. in the Operations Center Auditorium. The event is hosted by Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and will feature keynote speaker Air Force Col. Kevin Cullen, commander of The Ohio State University’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment.

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime announced 58 are slated to graduate the organization’s Level II Mentoring Program, a nine month course of study geared toward federal employees at the mid-career level.

DSCC statement on government shutdown

DSCC has a workforce of approximately 8,000 people distributed among 26 different tenant units. Funding for these organizations is and remains dedicated, and daily operations supporting the nation’s military services have not been impacted by the government shutdown.

Wounded warrior will speak at DSCC Veterans Day observance

A wounded warrior will be the keynote speaker during the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ annual Veterans Day celebration Nov. 7. Columbus, Ohio, native and retired Army Capt. Karen Roddy-Spikes will speak about her military experience and what it means to be a veteran during a presentation at the installation’s Operations Center Auditorium beginning at 1 p.m.

Puget Sound increases contracting awards nearly 50 percent, awarding small businesses millions

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Puget Sound detachment achieved a 43 percent increase in contracting actions this year. The contracting division executed more than $103 million in contract awards during fiscal year 2018 in support of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, an increase of nearly 50 percent over FY17.

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s all about being in the right place at the right time,” but these words couldn’t be truer for Daniel McCombs. It was dark outside and he was focused on ensuring the safety of the witnesses. This is when he noticed the car on flames and heard someone was still inside, he immediately went into response mode – trying to figure out how to save the driver.

Central Ohio small businesses gain millions

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime announced that more than $120 million in government contracting dollars have been awarded to Ohio small businesses since the beginning of the fiscal year. Third quarter numbers released today reflect an increase of more than $40 million from the first half of the fiscal year. Nearly $37 million in award dollars have gone to small businesses in the Columbus region – an increase of more than $7 million in the third quarter. The Columbus Metropolitan Region encompasses the following counties according to the Columbus Chamber of Commerce: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Knox, Logan, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union.
