The Defense Department’s Hazardous Materials Packaging Working Group, chaired by Jennifer Smith, Defense Logistics Agency Headquarters Logistic Operations Tech Quality Department, met virtually Sept. 30 to discuss remediation efforts for frustrated hazardous shipments, including a remediation process put in place by DLA Distribution.

New commander tours Europe and Africa fuel lab

One of five DLA Energy fuel laboratories worldwide, the Europe & Africa facility at the Rhine Ordnance Barracks in Germany tests around 2,000 fuel samples each year including routine quality surveillance, investigations of possible contamination as well as testing for secured fuels. DLA Energy Europe & Africa’s new commander Army Lt. Col. Benverren Fortune visited the lab to learn more about its capabilities and services June 10.

DLA Energy maintains fuel quality with modified procedures

Quality assurance representatives at DLA Energy are modifying procedures to ensure military fuel remains on-spec during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are closely synchronizing fuel movements with suppliers, and in some cases where there is an acceptable level of risk to the supply chain, using remote oversight methods to overcome restricted travel and social distancing requirements.
