DPAA official talks challenges, progress in accounting for America’s missing

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Defense Federal Community commemorated Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Recognition Day Sept. 21 at the Defense Supply Center Columbus. Since 1986, the third Friday in September is set aside to remember those taken prisoner or reported missing in America’s conflicts. This year’s featured speaker was Jack Kull, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s Strategic Coordinator for Southeast Asia.

The ceremony, held Sept. 28 at DLA Distribution Headquarters in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, served to remind attendees that those missing are still present in spirit.

Son of MIA recounts search for answers during DSCC’s annual observance

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Rick Buell was in kindergarten when his father went missing Sept. 17, 1972. An experienced naval aviator and married father of two, 33-year-old U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kenneth “Ken” Buell, was several months into his Vietnam tour as a bombardier navigator flying above North Vietnamese territory. Years later, search teams discovered aircraft wreckage and the remains of U.S. Navy Cmdr. Verne Donnelly – its pilot and only other occupant – but Ken Buell was never found.

Land and Maritime's POW/MIA ceremony honors service members, family sacrifices

COLUMBUS, Ohio — On a day that America has historically recognized the heroic efforts of its military service members DLA Land and Maritime hosted its 2015 POW/MIA Commemoration Ceremony in the Building 20 Auditorium with more than 300 people in attendance.Originally observed in July 1979, POW/MIA recognition day was moved to the third Friday of September in 1986
