Subsistence supports Navy in first efforts to provide freeze-dried foods to submarine fleet

PHILADELPHIA — The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence supply chain began providing support to U.S. Navy culinary specialists assigned to submarines in its first ever freeze-dried food pilot program.

The sinking of the Lusitania was the most notorious and deadly of several German submarine attacks in early 1917 -- attacks that were a key factor in the United States' decision to abandon a policy of neutrality and enter the war.
