Philadelphia Compound Veterans Committee observe Veteran's Day

PHILADELPHIA — Retired Army Master Sgt. Bill Kaemmer served as the keynote speaker during the Philadelphia Compound Veterans Committee’s annual Veteran’s Day observance, Nov. 5, 2018 at DLA Troop Support Philadelphia. Kaemmer shared the story of four United States Army chaplains who gave their lives to save those of civilian and military personnel during the sinking of the United States Army Troop Ship Dorchester on Feb. 3, 1943 during World War II.

Randall “Adam” Bethke, a retired Army chief warrant officer, was the keynote speaker during the Philadelphia Compound Veterans annual Memorial Day observance, May 24. Bethke spoke about the importance that Memorial Day had for his father, a Vietnam veteran who lost friends during the war. The personal connection to Memorial Day deepened when Bethke joined the Army and lost friends of his own in the Global War on Terror.

Retired Army warrant officer reflects on personal meaning of Memorial Day

PHILADELPHIA — For retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Randall “Adam” Bethke, a Memorial Day tradition, learned from his father, is to set out a finger of whiskey and a cigar for someone who cannot be there to enjoy it.

Vets Day program features stories of wounded warfighter transition

PHILADELPHIA — The director of the Honor and Courage program, which helps veterans transition from service to civilian life, spoke to the NSA Philadelphia workforce during the annual Veterans Day program Nov. 8.

Carrie Ann Brown, a forensic anthropologist with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, talks to the Naval Support Activity Philadelphia workforce during a POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony September 14. Brown, who holds a doctorate in anthropology, spoke about the work the DPAA does in recovering and identifying the remains of warfighters. The Philadelphia Compound Veterans Committee organized the event.

Anthropologist recounts ways to identify killed, missing warfighters during POW/MIA Recognition Day observance

PHILADELPHIA — A forensic anthropologist who works to provide the fullest possible accounting of warfighters captured, killed or missing in action spoke about her work to Naval Support Activity Philadelphia employees Sept. 14 during the POW/MIA Recognition Day observance.

Les Cruise, a World War II veteran, relates stories of his experiences in Europe as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, including the painful losses of his friends during combat, to the Naval Support Activity Philadelphia workforce during a Memorial Day observance May 18.

D-Day veteran reflects during Memorial Day observance

PHILADELPHIA — A World War II combat veteran offered a narrative of his military service in Europe to Naval Support Activity Philadelphia employees as part of a Memorial Day observance May 18.

Navy Capt. Christopher Mosher, DLA Troop Support Subsistence director, presents John Bulovas, a former World War II POW, with a token of appreciation for sharing his experience during the Philadelphia Compound Veterans Committee’s annual POW/MIA Remembrance ceremony Sept. 15 in Philadelphia. Bulovas was captured in 1943 by German forces and was liberated in 1945.

Former POW shares story of capture, liberation during remembrance ceremony

PHILADELPHIA — Employees at NSA Philadelphia experienced living history as the story of a former World War II prisoner of war was told during a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony Sept. 15.
