A look at DLA’s direct support to nuclear missile programs one year later

Richmond, Va. — The Defense Logistics Agency under one name or another has supported warfighter readiness since just after World War II. Today, DLA’s 27,000 employees do their part for readiness on all fronts, including nuclear readiness.

The 91st Missile Wing’s Missile Maintenance Teams of Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, are responsible for maintaining the top three components of the Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. MMT is part of the 91st Maintenance Group, the backbone of the 91st MW. The group is responsible for providing maintenance and logistics support to the wing’s ICBM fleet.

Troop Support launches dedicated nuclear enterprise support

Philadelphia — A team has been formed at DLA Troop Support to focus on the sustainment of the Defense Department's nuclear capabilities. The Nuclear Enterprise Support Office will coordinate the support that Troop Support’s five supply chains provide to nuclear weapons systems platforms.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Chris Misenheimer, a nuclear weapons technician, performs routine maintenance on a rotary launcher at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. DLA’s past support focused on the Defense Department’s nuclear enterprise shooters. The agency has recently expanded its support to the enterprise’s transport and support system functions as well.
