National Guard Rescues Hundreds of People in Wake of Hurricane

Logistics in Action: Article originally appeared on the official U.S. National Guard website — In response to Hurricane Helene, The Virginia National Guard mobilized more than 50 Guardsmen to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. Hurricane Helen caused significant damage prompting, local, state, and national response efforts lead by FEMA. The Virginia National Guard are responsible for rescuing six people with their Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team. They also cleared roads of downed trees and other debris.

Defense Supply Center Richmond was named a recipient of the 2021 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence. It was one of five recipients of the highly competitive Department of Defense award recognizing the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.

Under a blazing sun and the high heat of a typical late summer day in Virginia, military and government leaders broke ground for the Virginia National Guard headquarters building at the Defense Supply Center Richmond August 17.
