Celebrating 60 years: DLA balances reform, provision after 9/11

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — This is the sixth in a “Celebrating 60 years” series of seven articles highlighting DLA’s support to America’s military since the agency was created Oct. 1, 1961.

UNDISCLOSED LOCATIONS, Southwest Asia — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Marine Corps website — A platoon of infantry Marines with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, attached to Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Central Command, mill around their assigned armored trucks, waiting to start their day. Today is motor stables—a kind of “field day”—cleaning and maintenance for the platoon’s trucks.

Delivering MRAPs safely downrange

SOUTHWEST ASIA — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing website — The process that the 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron goes through to send MRAP vehicles throughout the area of responsibility is designed to ensure the vehicle makes its destination and operates properly when it gets there.

Two former military trucks, issued by DLA Disposition Services through the 1033 program to Texas law enforcement, depart the Texas Federal State Property San Antonio Office as the sun sets. The next morning the trucks were operating on the east side of Houston rescuing people from flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Former military equipment aids hurricane relief efforts

Boats and vehicles that once supported U.S. armed forces personnel are now giving aid to those responding to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

U.S. Marine Cpl. Ernesto VegaHernandez conducts a joint limited technical inspection of a recently refurbished Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, and the lighter version--MATV or MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle. The Kendall, Fla. native was a part of a select group of mechanics and communications maintainers with Combat Logistics Battalion 5, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command tasked with ensuring the vehicles were ready to be shipped to Iraq, where Marines are supporting Iraqi Security Forces in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. SPMAGTF – CR – CC is a self-sustaining expeditionary unit, designed to provide a broad range of crisis response capabilities throughout the Central Command area of responsibility, using organic aviation, logistical, and ground combat assets.
