HQC employees honor soldiers past, present at Army birthday celebration

McNamara Heaquarters Complex employees celebrated the Army's 244th birthday June 11 with veterans of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C., and soldiers from the Warrior Transition Unit on Fort Belvoir, Virginia, present.

Across the nation, people will visit cemeteries, attend memorial tributes and participate in parades as a way of honoring and remembering those service members’ sacrifices.

Seventy-four years ago today, American military forces, joined by their comrades in arms from Allied nations, began the final push to liberate Europe from Nazi oppression.

June 6, 2017, marks the 73rd anniversary of D-Day, when the Allies stormed the beaches at Normandy, France, to spark the beginning of victory in Europe.
