Additive manufacturing becoming key logistics enabler

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — Additive manufacturing will be key to troops’ ability to fight and win wars in the near future, DLA's current operations director told military representatives during a recent Joint Additive Manufacturing Acceptability III Qualification Workshop.

The skilled engineers and technicians of the 533rd CMMXS in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, design, prototype and manufacture thousands of critical components annually, that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. The parts are manufactured in order to bridge a gap in the regular supply system, when there’s no contract in place from an outside source.
