Living his dream

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — Two weeks after his high school graduation in June 1965, George Tyras joined the United States Air Force and became an aircraft fueling operator in U-Tapao, Thailand, servicing KC-135 and B-52 aircraft from Vietnam. Operation Rolling Thunder was underway and gas was 31 cents a gallon. Fifty-four years later, Tyras is ending his career with more than 54 years of total federal service.

Darcy L. Hall began her career serving three years in the U.S. Marine Corp before starting federal service as a staffing assistant clerk with DLA Human Resources, Cameron Station in Alexandria, Virginia. After a few moves, as a military spouse, she transferred to the DLA headquarters working for Human Resources, J1, before transitioning to Energy.
