Continuous Process Improvement award winners show dedication, making DLA better for all

Where there’s a will, there’s a way — and this year’s recipients of the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Continuous Process Improvement Award are shining examples of this enduring adage. Most of the honorees were recognized Oct. 23 at the Frank Lotts Conference Center, Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Among the 20 award recipients, there were three team awards and two individual performance awards. Awards were presented to CPI project teams; Kitting Functionality and Business Process Improvement, Commerciality Determination Honeywell International, and Oklahoma City – Backorder Resolution Process Improvement Project.

Change your clock, change your battery

As we enter the fall season, Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4. According to a National Fire Protection Association fact sheet for smoke alarms in U. S. home fires, fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate: • almost half (46 percent) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries, • nuisance alarms were the leading reason for disconnected smoke alarms, • dead batteries caused one-quarter (24 percent) of the smoke alarm failures, and • only seven percent of the failures were due to hardwired power source problems, including disconnected smoke alarms.

Fire Prevention Week: Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere.

Fire Prevention Week was Oct. 7 - 13. It was first established in 1922. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge issued the first proclamation for fire prevention week, making it a national observance. DLA Columbus Fire and Emergency Services recognizes the importance of fire prevention and fire safety education. FES holds several specialized events each year during fire prevention week.

Engineers rally over Sailors to win Navy’s annual regatta

The Bullship went belly up and a fast-moving shark named Hat Trick prevailed at Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s 4th annual Navy Cardboard Regatta held Oct. 11 at DSCC. The race is held annually on the U.S. Navy’s birthday and showcases a range of watercraft created by Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, veterans and civilians using nothing more than duct tape and cardboard. The race is open to all tenants and this year’s cardboard fleet featured a dozen teams from DLA Land and Maritime, the Navy Recruiting District Ohio and the DFAS– Columbus.
