Puget Sound increases contracting awards nearly 50 percent, awarding small businesses millions

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Puget Sound detachment achieved a 43 percent increase in contracting actions this year. The contracting division executed more than $103 million in contract awards during fiscal year 2018 in support of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, an increase of nearly 50 percent over FY17.

The Barn opens its doors once again

After two years of renovations, the DSCR Community Center — also known as “The Barn” — is open and ready to welcome visitors once again. The 80-year-old structure at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, has hosted many recreational and professional functions including conferences, private and government ceremonies, and summer community programs.

Event puts creative spin on domestic violence awareness

Come out and break a sweat while bringing awareness to the issue of domestic violence at this year’s Spin for the Cause/Breaking the Cycle of Domestic Violence. A joint venture between Defense Logistics Agency Installation Operations Richmond and the U.S. Army Reserve 80th Training Command, Spin for the Cause encourages physical and mental fitness to help overcome obstacles and gain empowerment.

DSCC associate saves life on commute home

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s all about being in the right place at the right time,” but these words couldn’t be truer for Daniel McCombs. It was dark outside and he was focused on ensuring the safety of the witnesses. This is when he noticed the car on flames and heard someone was still inside, he immediately went into response mode – trying to figure out how to save the driver.

Communications Line of Business and EcoSystem Chief Robert Reed officiated the Defense Information Systems Agency-Columbus Retirement Ceremony Sept. 25 to celebrate 22 retiring employees. The employees were from the Infrastructure Directorate, Services Directorate, and Development and Business Center.

Benjamin “Gil” Perkins inducted as the 2018 Hall of Fame recipient

For his dedicated service and contributions to Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, Benjamin “Gil” Perkins, former DLA Aviation chief counsel was inducted into the 2018 DLA Aviation Hall of Fame Sept. 27. Perkins retired in 2015 after 34 years of service.
