A team of U.S. Navy Sailors and Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services civilians recently completed a two-week Contingency Overseas Readiness Exercise on the Pacific island of Guam.
Demilitarization denies adversarial access to potentially valuable equipment in surplus market.
A select group of search and rescue medics proved that “practice makes perfect” still applies to training. The medics made use of demilitarized CH-46 helicopters to practice SAR techniques creating a realistic training experience.
The removal of 20,000 lbs. of inert munitions and range residue will help trainers provide a safer, more realistic place to prepare for combat.
DLA Disposition Services has begun the process of shuttering 35 field offices to keep pace with ongoing defense reduction directives. DLA expects to complete all closings before October 2022.
