Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services held a virtual Material Handling Equipment Safety Summit in November. Due to travel restrictions put in place by the Defense Department to help combat the pandemic, the annual material handling event was held online for the first time.

Training the next generation of warfighter supporters goes virtual during pandemic

When Defense Logistics Agency Pathways to Career Excellence Class 39 kicked off March 16, 20-year Army veteran Daryl Johnson was among the 30 members embarking on the two-year journey. The DLA Pathways to Career Excellence Program trains entry-level employees for advancement in supply, technical quality, procurement and finance fields through on-the-job work assignments, cross-training, rotational assignments and formal instruction. Johnson and his classmates were still in-processing into DLA when the agency launched a maximum telework policy March 23 due to COVID-19.

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Leadership Academy, held Oct. 8-10, educated attendees on leadership topics ranging from Equal Employment Opportunity to human resources processes and ethics. The program also included information, resources and messages focused on building trust and striving for excellence.

Construction Begins on DSCR’s New East Gate

In an effort to comply with current anti-terrorism standards, Defense Logistics Agency Installation Operations Richmond is embarking on a $6 million project to replace the East Gate. The new gate will be located near the former housing area adjacent to Jefferson Davis Highway on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. The work began this month and is expected to be completed by August 2019.

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Acquisition Executive and Head of Contracting Activity Cathy Contreras hosted the Senior Procurement Executive primary-level field activity Aviation Review, Aug. 1 – 2, on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. DLA’s Acquisition Director Matthew Beebe attended the event and was briefed by Aviation’s leadership on current acquisition topics.

Defense Logistics Agency 508 Compliance Program Office employees Noel Romey, information technology specialist and Christina Larsen, DLA 508 program manager, DLA Information Operations , who work at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, attended the 32nd California State University, Northridge, Assistive Technology Conference, March 1 – 3, in San Diego to learn about the latest technology to assist handicap employees.

On July 14, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation hosted 40 rising junior and senior students from the Hanover Regional Governor’s School for Career and Technical Advancement three-week summer program. The students came to Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, to learn about the various career fields that encompass the DLA Aviation and DLA Installation Support at Richmond workforce.
