Longtime DSCC engineer, installation deputy retires

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management – Columbus Deputy Site Director Eddy Poprock retired Oct. 1 after 39 years at the Defense Supply Center Columbus. The Lorain, Ohio, native began his federal career shortly after graduating Ohio State University when he took a developmental civil engineering job at DSCC – then known as the Defense Construction Supply Center.

Defense Supply Center Columbus celebrated its Women’s History Month Program virtually March 24 and featured Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Commander Navy Rear Adm. Kristen Fabry as its guest speaker. The event was live streamed and the theme for this year’s program was Making Monumental History in 2021.

The Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity and the African American Employment Program commemorate Black History Month with a two-part series recognizing Hanford Village, a hidden gem in our local community. This year’s national theme is “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, Diversity.” Part I of this series focuses on the representation of the Black Family in Hanford Village and the impact of zoning on the community.

Columbus awardees recognized

Eight Columbus employees and two teams garnered top honors in the 53rd Annual Employee Recognition Awards announced by the Defense Logistics Agency. Due to current health guidelines, employees received recognition via a virtual ceremony that is scheduled to be released later this month. As part of that recognition, DLA Land and Maritime is highlighting several Columbus recipients each week. The first group includes two Land Supplier Operations associates and a safety and occupational health specialist.

‘Never borrow from yourself’: Customer account specialist shares best advice of his 50-year career

This week marks five decades since a young Chester Parker entered an Army recruiting center and embarked on a federal career that took him around the world. Today, Parker is a customer account specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Land Customer Operations. In this capacity he serves as the “face” to Army and Marine Corps customers and engages with them daily to understand their specific logistics needs.
