DLA forward teams ensure warfighters receive Thanksgiving meals

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — DLA employees have worked since the spring to ensure military service members throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East can enjoy turkey, sweet potatoes and pies for Thanksgiving.

“No one in our shop has ever done this repair before,” said Senior Airman Kaleb Lemons, 86th Maintenance Squadron repair and reclamation journeyman. “An aircraft can typically go its entire lifespan without us replacing these parts.”

A base in a box: 86th MMS keeps Air Force ready for action

Each warehouse in the facility holds a different surprise, but those coming in will find that most of these treasures are kept hidden under lock and key.

86 MXS crawls into C-130 fuel tank inspection

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Ramstein Air Base website — Two crews of Airmen assigned to the 86th Maintenance Squadron worked around the clock for 10 days experiencing the fuel tanks while performing a mandatory inspection for a C-130 that had reached its 12-year mark from July 30 to Aug. 9.

Walk a mile in the boots of a maintainer

RASMTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Ramstein Air Force Base website — On average, 521st Air Mobility Wing’s 721st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron inspects, services, and repairs 30 aircraft in a single day. In one weekend, they are typically responsible for more missions than all the other squadrons in the European and Pacific Commands handle in a month combined.
