Shelter in place awareness could save lives during a CBRNE incident

September is National Preparedness Month. One of the warnings you may be given if chemical, biological, nuclear or high explosives (CBRNE) may have been released into the atmosphere is to shelter in place (SIP). This is a precaution aimed to keep you safe while remaining indoors. SIP means selecting a small, interior room, with no or few windows, and taking refuge there. It does not mean sealing off your entire office building. The Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia CBRNE Annex Plan details what you should do if an CBRNE incident occurs on DSCR.

Prevention key to staying ahead of Zika virus

Defense Supply Center Richmond is one of four federal installations in Central Virginia collecting mosquitoes to test for the Zika virus. Defense Logistics Agency Installation Support at Richmond’s Environmental Office is working with Kenner Army Health Clinic’s Preventive Medicine Clinic to prevent the spread (or reduce the risk) of the microcephaly causing disease in the commonwealth. Microcephaly is a medical condition in which the brain does not develop properly during pregnancy resulting in a smaller than normal head.
