The Defense Logistics Agency’s regional commanders expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the DLA Troop Support workforce during a visit Dec. 2.

“Working in [U.S. Central Command], where there’s been active war for the last nearly 15 years, we live and die by these supply chains,” said Army Col. Derrin Williams, DLA Central commander.

Williams was joined by Army Col. Elizabeth Keough, DLA Europe and Africa commander, and Army Col. Richard Ellis, DLA Pacific commander. They are DLA’s senior representatives in their respective regions.

While spending the week at DLA Headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the three commanders traveled to Philadelphia to meet with representatives of DLA Troop Support’s five supply chains and tour the flag room.

“We mainly wanted to come say thanks,” Keough said. “We couldn’t function without the work that Troop Support does.”

Williams’s gratitude for the Clothing and Textiles supply chain was personal. He was shot by a sniper while deployed to Iraq. But thanks to body armor provided through C&T, the impact was minimized, he said.

“I appreciate the time that goes into testing the [Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert] plates,” Williams told Keith Ford, C&T deputy director. “I appreciate you making sure it’s right.”

Keough specifically thanked Mary Martin, with the Medical supply chain’s Plans and Integration division, by presenting her a commander’s coin for her work in support of Operation United Assistance. OUA was the Defense Department mission in West Africa to help stop the spread of the deadly Ebola virus

Martin oversaw the transportation of personal protective equipment for personnel from DOD, U.S. Agency for International Development and the Public Health Service. Medical provided more than 1.4 million protective suits, in addition to surgical gloves and surgical masks in support of OUA, Martin said.

Energy commander emphasizes commercial supply chain at Defense Logistics conference

Employees surprise Troop Support leaders with award

PHILADELPHIA — Two leaders at DLA Troop Support were pleasantly caught off guard by the actions of their employees Nov. 19.

DLA Troop Support Pacific personnel oversee the delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables to the USS Theodore Roosevelt Nov. 15 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii. It was the first delivery through Troop Support Pacific’s new long-term FF&V contract.

Troop Support Pacific bolsters fresh fruits, vegetables support to Navy

PHILADELPHIA — The USS Theodore Roosevelt received a special delivery Nov. 15 when it stopped at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The aircraft carrier was resupplied with fresh fruits and vegetables through Troop Support Pacific, the first delivery through a new, long-term contract that enables better support to Navy ships.

Energy’s deputy commander visits Middle East

NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN, Bahrain — The Defense Logistics Agency Energy deputy commander accompanied the DLA director on a tour of component commands in the U.S. Central Command region Nov. 3-13.

Troop Support serves taste of home to military overseas for Thanksgiving

PHILADELPHIA — Service members around the world will have a taste of home this Thanksgiving, thanks to DLA Troop Support. More than 15,000 pounds of turkey and 1,854 pies have been provided in time for troops in Afghanistan to enjoy their holiday meals.

Contingency planner rewarded for role in joint task force

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Andre Hinson’s work in support of Joint Task Force Port Opening’s exercise Turbo Distribution 16-1, earned him a coin from the joint task force commander at Camp Shelby Oct. 29.
