The DoDM 4160.21 vol. 2 requires all DoD Components to identify additional precious metal generating activities. Once identified, the Precious Metals Recovery Program (PMRP) is required to evaluate those activities and, if economical, provide funding/equipment for the DoD components to recoup the precious metals from the activity.
These activities can include a wide range of different process with some examples below:
- Silver recovery cartridges/machines to recover silver from the development of certain film (such as aerial and x-ray photo development).
- Vacuums to recover gold dust/sweepings working dental procedures.
- Provide funds for cleaning precious metal coated lab equipment that use precious metals to coat objects (such as coating electronics/microchips/circuit boards)
If your component/work area generates precious metal recovery opportunities, or if you would like more information, please send PMRP an email at dla.disp.srvcs.pmrp@dla.mil
