National Guard Provides Support to Hurricane Stricken States

Logistics in Action: Article originally appeared on the Official U.S. Dept. of Defense website — Hurricane Helene, a category 4 storm that touched down in Florida late September 26, 2024, caused significant damage across the Deep South and then northwestward across the southern Appalachians. As a result, local, state, and national response efforts have launched with FEMA coordinating the Federal assistance throughout impacted areas. About 6,700 guardsmen from 16 states across the U.S. have been activated to provide assistance.

National Guard Rescues Hundreds of People in Wake of Hurricane

Logistics in Action: Article originally appeared on the official U.S. National Guard website — In response to Hurricane Helene, The Virginia National Guard mobilized more than 50 Guardsmen to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. Hurricane Helen caused significant damage prompting, local, state, and national response efforts lead by FEMA. The Virginia National Guard are responsible for rescuing six people with their Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team. They also cleared roads of downed trees and other debris.

Hurricane Helene has caused significant damage across the southeastern United States since its initial landfall. Since, FEMA has taken the lead in coordinating much needed Federal assistance for residents in significantly damaged areas and these weekend-warriors have been hard at work alongside civilian agencies across the United States, ensuring supplies get to where they are needed.
