DLA Troop Support Academy brings ‘Warfighter First’ mission to life for new employees

During the DLA Troop Support Academy, held over three days at the agency’s headquarters in Philadelphia from Oct. 22-24, about 100 employees learned more about the organization from leaders and subject matter experts from the five supply chains and other organizational areas.

Industrial Hardware employees engage industry, take lessons back

Employees from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Industrial Hardware supply chain acted as organization ambassadors, while learning more about the items they buy for warfighters at bicoastal industry engagement meetings. The IH cross-functional group of pre- and post-award acquisitions, technical/quality and supply specialists attended the International Fastener Expo Sept. 28-30 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Design-2-Part Show Oct. 23-24 in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Leadership Academy, held Oct. 8-10, educated attendees on leadership topics ranging from Equal Employment Opportunity to human resources processes and ethics. The program also included information, resources and messages focused on building trust and striving for excellence.

DLA Construction and Equipment is always prepared to help fight against wildfires

This year, the annual wildfire season has been less active, with about 28 percent fewer acres of land burning during the season than the 10-year average, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. Despite this decrease in fire activity, the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Construction and Equipment supply chain remains ready in case disaster strikes.

Counsel speaks to local law students about federal employment, builds partnerships

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Office of General Counsel participated in a Greater Philadelphia Area Law Schools consortium event Sept. 19 to engage and inform local law students about the agency’s mission and federal employment benefits. Panel member Jon Lightner, DLA Troop Support chief counsel and Villanova University School of Law graduate, spoke to students from nine local law schools about the specialized legal positions within Troop Support. As the first and only DLA legal team to pursue efforts like this according to Lightner, the engagement builds partnerships with the colleges and generates potential interest in federal service among future legal professionals.

DLA Troop Support gives first-hand lesson on supply chains to Air Force Air Mobility students

Students and academic leaders from the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Operations School visited the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia Aug. 26 for an overview of the agency’s services and to learn about its mission. The students, who are part of the school’s Advanced Study of Air Mobility program, met with representatives from each of the agency’s five supply chains.

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support recently emphasized a focus on project management to enable better data-driven decision making and analysis. The Continuous Process Improvement office is leading the charge in support of PM training with classroom sessions to improve the workforce's PM skills and provide tools intended to help employees and leaders.

DLA Troop Support recognizes civilian retirees

Susan Baker, Jeffrey Kochanowicz and Garth McBride marked their retirement from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support during a ceremony July 29. DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Gavin Lawrence presided over the ceremony and thanked the retirees for their 104 combined years of service to the federal government and warfighters.
