Filled liquid oxygen carts are ready for pick-up at the 673d Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels facilities section at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Dec. 4, 2017. Oxygen is pressurized and cooled into a liquid state in order to transport it more efficiently from cryogenic tanks to JBER’s aircraft to provide fresh air to pilots in flight.

The JBER Laundry employs 63 Airmen who collectively wash, dry, press, fold and wrap 7,000 pounds of laundry daily – almost 7 million pounds per year. The JBER Laundry, formerly known as the Quartermaster Laundry has been supporting the laundry needs of the base community since the 1950s.

JBER Laundry fight stains Alaska wide

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson website — Heading south from Fairbanks, is a trailer filled to the brim with soiled linen from various federal agencies. Within 72 hours, JBER Laundry workers of the 673d Force Support Squadron will wash, dry, press, fold and wrap the sullied shipment and return it whence it came. In this fashion, five days per week, thousands of pounds of laundry are exchanged.

Airman 1st Class Lukas Johnson is an aircraft structural maintenance technician with the 3rd Maintenance Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The Phoenix native works with sheet metal, carbon fiber and paint to maintain aircraft structures.
