Spring forward with DST, working smoke alarms

Richmond, Va. — Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Richmond’s Fire Prevention Office would like to remind everyone of the importance of changing your smoke detector batteries when you move your clock forward March 8, in conjunction with Daylight Saving Time. The smoke detectors could be the most important safety equipment in your home, but in many cases, they are the least maintained.

Change your clock, change your battery

Richmond, Va. — As we enter the fall season, Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4. According to a National Fire Protection Association fact sheet for smoke alarms in U. S. home fires, fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate: • almost half (46 percent) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries, • nuisance alarms were the leading reason for disconnected smoke alarms, • dead batteries caused one-quarter (24 percent) of the smoke alarm failures, and • only seven percent of the failures were due to hardwired power source problems, including disconnected smoke alarms.

DSCR’s annual flu-shot clinics start Nov. 1

Richmond, Virginia — Defense Logistics Agency Installation Operations at Richmond, Virginia’s, Fire and Emergency Services are set to offer several flu-shot clinics for active duty military members and civilian government employees with a valid Department of Defense identification card.DLA Aviation employees will be given shots from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 1-2 in the Frank B. Lotts Conference Center.

Installation firefighters honored for assistance to Harrisburg blaze
