Oklahoma City’s Freed awarded Global Distribution Excellence: Inventory Management Civilian of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — Lance Freed, a general supply specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Oklahoma City, Okla., has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Inventory Management Civilian of the Year Award for his contributions to the distribution center’s inventory accuracy and performance.

Distribution headquarters kicks off OSHA Voluntary Protection Program with Area Safety Representatives

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania — As part of ongoing efforts to improve occupational safety and health across Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, the Susquehanna installation kicked off the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program with Area Safety Representatives on Aug. 12.

Air Force Master Sgt. Woodrow Ruff (left) and Army Staff Sgt. Brandon Miller (right) were selected July 27 as DLA Senior and Junior NCO of the Third Quarter, respectively. DLA Troop Support Chief of Staff Robert Ratner hailed Ruff and Miller as two of the organization’s “best and brightest.”

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Charles Crumb has been selected as the new deputy commander of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Jacksonville, Fla.

Inside a massive 3D printer, a delicate head moves at lightning speed to precisely deposit heated plastic layer by layer to create a hardened part. DLA is researching whether 3D printing could help reduce costs and improve readiness.

3D printing could help DLA cut costs, improve parts support

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — The Defense Logistics Agency is evaluating whether 3D printing, a process commercial manufacturers use to produce everything from prosthetics to airplane parts, could lower the cost and reduce lead times for hard-to-source, obsolete and back-ordered parts.

Six-month rotation, DLA Energy’s pipeline to success

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — Gladys White is the first DLA Energy employee to kick start the Defense Logistics Agency Energy’s Rotation Program. For the next six months she is setting aside her administrative role in DLA Energy Direct Delivery Fuels and learning about becoming a project management analyst for the Defense Fuel Support Point Management’s Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization division.

Troop Support commander sizes up recruits at Lackland AFB

LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas — The first pair of combat boots didn’t fit. So DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Charles Hamilton walked to the stocked shelf and brought another pair to the Air Force recruit.

San Diego employee participates in the DoD Operation Warfighter Program

SAN DIEGO, California — Armando “Bud” Budomo dedicated 21 years of his life to serving his country. The decision to retire from the United States Marine Corps was not one taken lightly, without thought to the future. After careful consideration, the newly retired major made the decision to apply to the Department of Defense Operation Warfighter program, with the goal of gaining experience to find a permanent home in the Department of Defense civilian workforce.
