Agency garners four Pentagon awards

One DLA employee and three DLA teams received fiscal 2016 DoD Value Engineering Achievement Awards at a July 18 Pentagon ceremony.

Mission Complete: DFSP San Pedro closes last tank

SAN PEDRO, California — Tank 17, the last tank to be filled with foam crete and solidify, marks the milestone closure of 27 underground tanks at the U.S. Navy owned Defense Fuel Support Point in San Pedro, California, July 20.

New DLA command creates joint ops center to boost warfighter support

A new joint operations team is now active at the newly created Defense Logistics Agency CENTCOM & SOCOM headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

Former DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Charles Hamilton presents contracting officer Maliza Maldonado a DLA Superior Civilian Service Award and recognizes her as the DLA Troop Support 2016 Employee of the Year during a ceremony June 6 in Philadelphia. The awards cited Maldonado's handling of an 18-month, $43M bridge contract for the industrial hardware needed to support three air logistics complexes at Ogden, Utah; Oklahoma City; and Warner Robins, Georgia.

2016 Employee of the Year sustains critical Air Force weapons systems

PHILADELPHIA — A contracting officer with the Industrial Hardware supply chain was named 2016 DLA Troop Support Employee of the Year and received the DLA Superior Civilian Service Award June 6 for her contributions to acquiring hardware for critical systems across the Air Force.

Army Col. Mark Simerly, DLA Troop Support commander, discussed trust, discipline and commitment during a town hall event for employees July 18. Simerly took command of the organization July 11.

PHILADELPHIA — Army Col. Mark Simerly discussed the importance of trust, discipline and commitment during his first town hall as commander of DLA Troop Support.

Willis Smith, who currently runs the kitting section in the Vehicles and Artillery Division at DLA Distribution Anniston, Alabama, is the winner of the DLA Distribution Big Ideas award, individual category for second quarter, fiscal year 2017.

ANNISTON, Alabama — Willis Smith, who currently runs the kitting section in the Vehicles and Artillery Division at DLA Distribution Anniston, Alabama, is the winner of the DLA Distribution Big Ideas award, individual category for second quarter, fiscal year 2017.

Stephanie Samergedes, director of DLA Intelligence, discussed the latest developments affecting the workforce and DLA partners with senior leaders from the DLA field activities and U.S. Pacific Command, at USPACOM headquarters in June.

The director of DLA Intelligence visited DLA Pacific and U.S. PACOM headquarters in June to discuss the latest developments affecting the DLA workforce and ways her organization is working with DoD partners in the region.

Two Mather Soil Vapor Extraction units achieve cleanup goals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center website — The Air Force’s remediation program at the former Mather Air Force Base took another major step forward this summer when two Soil Vapor Extraction units were found to have achieved their cleanup goals.

Richmond, Virginia — The DLA Aviation Forging and Casting Assistance Team looks for ways to save time and money on contracts by improving processes and solving procurement problems. The AFCAT educates employees on casting and forging processes by taking them to visit two commercial casting and forging companies that make parts for DLA.

Several Police Presence in a Box kits were transferred to Iraqi security forces July 3. The kits are the first of 100 that DLA Troop Support procured for Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve and will be transferred to ISF this summer. The kits include: a tent with a working space, furniture, lighting, water tanks, laptops, phones, GPS, weapons storage and checkpoint equipment.

DLA-procured police-presence kits delivered to Iraqi security forces

PHILADELPHIA — On the verge of victory in Mosul, Iraqi security forces received police equipment that they’ll use to protect their citizens. The first Police Presence in a Box kits were transferred to Iraqi security forces July 3 during a ceremony in Baghdad.
