Audit Task Force Roadshow arrives at DLA Land and Maritime

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime associates gathered in the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Operations Center Auditorium June 10 for the DLA Audit Task Force Road Show Town Hall meeting titled “Building Connections.” The agency’s audit-readiness efforts began six years ago, when senior leaders first challenged associates to adopt new procedures and controls to ensure the accuracy of DLA’s financial statements.

Army Capt. Stanley Burdine retires after 27-year Army career

DLA Land and Maritime senior leaders and associates in Land Supplier Operations said farewell to one of their own May 31 when Army Capt. Stanley Burdine, a supervisory contract administrator for the Land Post Award, Land Supplier Operations Directorate at DLA Land and Maritime, retired after more than 27 years of dedicated service to our nation.

Spring brings in many new faces

The months of April and May brought in 38 new employees beginning their careers at Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime. The New Employee Orientations were April 24-25 and May 22-23 in Building 20. The class consisted of student interns, supply specialists, purchasing agents, engineers and police officers.

DLA Land and Maritime inducts four honorees into its 2019 Hall of Fame Class

DLA Land and Maritime inducted four new members into its Hall of Fame during a ceremony held May 30 in DSCC’s building 20 auditorium. The induction marked the 15th anniversary of the DLA Land and Maritime event. The HOF ceremony celebrates former Land and Maritime associates who significantly contributed to the Warfighter support mission, while also demonstrating a positive impact on the organization’s people, growth and efficiency.

DSCC Pass and ID Team receive Rapids High Flyer Award

The DSCC Pass and ID RAPIDS team was recognized by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Personal Readiness for outstanding customer service. Sites were evaluated by the DMDC on their common access card success rate, user management maintenance and utilization.

EMS Week heats up with a chili cook-off

DLA Columbus Fire and Emergency Services and Police Department held the fourth annual chili cook-off at DSCC Fire Station May 24. The chili cook-off was first initiated in 2016 as a means to celebrate Police Week and Emergency Medical Services Week.

Children bring their care center to life

Children at the Child Development Center repopulated their garden with vegetables and flowers May 22. Every Kindergarten Preparatory student planted at least one seedling under the care of Environmental Division and CDC staff. Preschool and toddler classrooms will assist with watering and care during the growing season.

2019 Shred Day success

DSCC Environmental Division collaborated with MWR to save 27 cubic yards of paper from entering the local landfill May 15. Shred Day was open to all DSCC associates for personal shredding and employees recycled 13,165 pounds of paper, which is equivalent to 6.5 tons.

DSCC Installation CPR and AED Training Program

The training and existence of voluntary First Response Team members lessens the impact of sudden cardiac arrest by supporting employee and worksite preparedness and response and optimizing a person’s chance for survival. Team members are volunteers, who are currently certified. Responsibilities include providing CPR, the use of an AED or Heimlich Maneuver for choking in an emergency situation to associates who are in need of assistance until emergency personnel arrive. Associates can register for a class by calling the Building 21 Health Clinic at 614-701-5104.
