David Sanford held a town hall Oct. 1. This was his first time addressing a mass gathering of the workforce since taking command in July.

The Security Operations Branch, Security & Emergency Services Division, DLA Installation Management Columbus planned and coordinated participation in numerous events and activities as part of National Preparedness Month during the month of September. Janet Price has been selected for induction into the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Hall of Fame. She will be inducted during a Nov. 12 ceremony at 1 p.m. on DSCR.

Land and Maritime associate named to Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame

The Ohio Department of Veterans Services announced the 2019 Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame class in a statement Sept. 26. Army Col. John Dreska is among 20 inductees who will be inducted in November for their post-military service and accomplishments. In addition to his military service, Dreska works for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime as the division chief for batteries, tires and engines.

DSCR employees help clean up along James River

Defense Logistics Agency employees from Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, participated in the James River Regional Cleanup hosted by the James River Advisory Council Sep. 14 at Falling Creek Ironworks Park in North Chesterfield County. The river clean-up, which resulted in the collecting of more than 100 bags of trash, was part of a larger initiative sponsored by the James River Advisory Council that included similar activities throughout seventeen locations around the state of Virginia.

Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Development Continues

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Planning and Industrial Support Division conducted an Industrial Support Activity training session Sept. 5 with personnel from the Anniston Army Depot in Anniston, Alabama, their second iteration in a series of planned training sessions. The training is designed to strengthen partnerships, improve customer support and connect the efforts of the DLA team with the outcomes achieved at the ISA. Strong Partnerships is one of five lines of effort advanced by Defense Logistics Agency Director Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams as a roadmap to ensure victory against trans-regional multi-domain threats, in an increasingly complex global environment.

Navy RDML Kenneth Epps, Deputy Chief of Staff for Fleet Ordnance and Supply/Fleet Supply Officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia, traveled to Defense Logistics Agency Aviation on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Sept. 25, to meet with DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. David Sanford, as well as other senior leaders.

National Preparedness Month: Soft Target Awareness

In recent years, numerous violent extremists have targeted movie theaters, shopping centers, marketplaces, schools, night clubs, transportation systems, concerts, sporting events, public arenas and other crowded places in attempts to inflict mass casualties, terrify the public and/or influence public policies. Regrettably, intentional mass casualty incidents are increasing worldwide, especially here within the U.S.
