Family celebrates Army Officer's promotion

It was a family celebration Sept. 6 when Maj. Bruce Neighbor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Neighbor’s wife, Kristin, and sons, Zane (left) and Zachary (right), were on hand to place their father’s new rank on his uniform during a ceremony at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime headquarters, where Neighbor is a member of the DLA Joint Reserve Force.

Defense Logistics Agency Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams visited DLA Land and Maritime Sept. 5 through Sept. 6 to get an in-person update on the business operations and how they’ve been integrated into DLA’s Strategic Plan. He also presided over the Sept. 6 retirement ceremony of Navy Rear Adm. Deborah Haven, Director of the DLA Joint Reserve Force, before leaving Columbus, Ohio.

Warming up to fire safety

As part of this year’s Emergency Preparedness Month campaign at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, the Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management, Richmond Fire and Emergency Services’ Fire Prevention Office is working to ensure everyone is aware of the risks associated with using candles, kerosene heaters, and home-use generators during and after disaster-related events.

Service at first sight: Captain helps guide dog stay in shape

Bernard Werwie, Jr., an acquisition specialist with Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Supplier Operations Commodities Directorate, is rarely without his guide dog, Herman. The helpful canine is Werwie’s eyes around Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, and just about everywhere else Werwie wants to travel. But recent physical ailments suffered by Werwie also threatened to sideline his walking partner. Until the employees of Bldg. 33, H Bay stepped in to lend a hand — and a few feet, as well.

Turner during an installation visit Aug. 23 at the Defense Supply Center Columbus. Turner represents the 10th Congressional District of Ohio made up of Montgomery, Greene, and Fayette Counties.

DLA Richmond Fire and Emergency Services ranked among the best departments in the country

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Richmond’s Fire and Emergency Services is among the top departments in the country. The Commission on Fire Accreditation International unanimously recommended the department for accreditation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence after a hearing Aug. 9, in Atlanta, Georgia.
