2019 Shred Day success

DSCC Environmental Division collaborated with MWR to save 27 cubic yards of paper from entering the local landfill May 15. Shred Day was open to all DSCC associates for personal shredding and employees recycled 13,165 pounds of paper, which is equivalent to 6.5 tons.

DSCC Installation CPR and AED Training Program

The training and existence of voluntary First Response Team members lessens the impact of sudden cardiac arrest by supporting employee and worksite preparedness and response and optimizing a person’s chance for survival. Team members are volunteers, who are currently certified. Responsibilities include providing CPR, the use of an AED or Heimlich Maneuver for choking in an emergency situation to associates who are in need of assistance until emergency personnel arrive. Associates can register for a class by calling the Building 21 Health Clinic at 614-701-5104.

I’m a firefighter, emergency medical technician-paramedic and hazardous materials technician with Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Richmond on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. May 2019 marks 28 years since I started working here — literally half my life.

According to the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians website, in 1974 President Gerald Ford authorized Emergency Medical Services Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. Back then, EMS was a new profession and practitioners had only just started to be recognized as a critical component of emergency medicine and the public health safety net. EMS is now firmly established as an essential public function and a vital component of the medical care continuum.

Lotts Conference Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. She recognized employees for their outstanding work and comically made the distinction of which military service won the most service awards.

The annual Senior Executive Partnership Roundtable was held at the Frank B. Lotts Conference Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, May 9. The SEPRT gathers senior executives from the agency’s strategic supplier alliances to meet with the Defense Logistics Agency leadership and military customer senior leaders to discuss general issues affecting DLA Aviation suppliers.

New designated smoking areas at Defense Supply Center Richmond

Designated smoking areas will be at least 50 feet from building entrances and air intake ducts and will not be located in areas commonly used by nonsmokers.

Emergency 9-1-1 Campaign: What everyone should know

Defense Logistics Agency Richmond Fire and Emergency Services Division will kick off its 2019 Emergency 9-1-1 campaign May 20 and it will run through May 24. This year’s theme is “What Everyone Should Know About 9-1-1.” It’s an effort to educate the Defense Supply Center Richmond community about the Enhanced 9-1-1 system, which routes an emergency call to the appropriate 911 answering point for the caller's location and automatically displays the caller's phone number and address.

EMS Week Spotlight: Jason Stanley

“DLA Columbus Fire and Emergency Services would like to honor Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician Jason Stanley for his efforts beyond the call,” said, DLA Columbus Assistant Fire Chief Paul Alexander. Stanley first became a firefighter and an EMT in 1994. He joined DLA Columbus as a fire inspector in 2008. In 2010, he transitioned from a fire inspector role to that of a firefighter and EMT. Stanley joined the Ohio Air National Guard as a Search and Extraction Medic in 2013. He’s current a Staff Sergeant and will be promoted to Technical Sergeant June 1.

DSCC celebrated Police Week, honoring officers

Every year DSCC participates in National Police Week with various observances and events on the installation in honor of the Police Officers who serve and protect the base. This year’s activities concluded with a cookout and the DSCC Police receiving a custom designed coin from the AFGE 1148 Union recognizing their efforts throughout the year for Police Week.

DLA assists U.S. Navy in reintroducing Union Jack flag on naval ships

Returning to naval tradition, the Union Jack flag will replace the First Navy Jack flag which has been used on all naval vessels since 2002. The change will take place with morning colors on June 4. DLA has played a vital role in ensuring the maritime flags are on-hand and ready for the transition by gathering the information on the number of flags needed, working with the contractor to ensure production goals are met and the delivery of the flags.

Forward presence spotlight: Royal Cline

Royal Cline is a Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime customer service representative located in San Diego, California. Cline recently worked with his counterparts at DLA Troop Support to ensure Naval ships will receive the Union Jack flag to replace the current First Navy Jack flag (pictured) for the June 4 reintroduction date. Cline’s primary customer is the surface fleet but he also serves carriers, U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, expeditionary units, shipyards and industrial sites in the Pacific Ocean area of operations.

Puget Sound focuses on reducing customer wait times, improves processes

Customers have been the focus for the past three years at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Puget Sound detachment. The DLA Maritime - Puget Shop Stores item managers have worked diligently to improve customer support by driving down the not-in-stock or empty bin rate, reducing the risk of costly work stoppages at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
