The National Stock Number

A National Stock Number (NSN) is simply the official label applied to an item of supply that is repeatedly procured, stocked, stored, issued and used throughout the federal supply system.

During NSN assignment, a wide range of logistics data is assembled to define the item of supply. This information includes the item name, manufacturer’s part number, unit price, characteristics, shelf life and information associated with how to dispose of the item when requirements are no longer needed.

The NSN is officially recognized by the United States government, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and any international partners around the world.

Web Federal Logistics Information System (WebFLIS)
WebFLIS provides essential information about supply items including the NSN, the item name and company data (including part numbers), through a web interface connected to Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS) data. This information is primarily used by DLA, military services, and United States Government sponsored contractors doing business with the U.S. Government. WebFLIS data is updated multiple times a day. WebFLIS has additional tabs such as Advanced Characteristics Search, Medical, Weapon System and a Bill of Material (BOM)/Sets, Kits and Outfits (SKO) to allow users to narrow down searches using specific filtering and clear text supply codes with the ability to translate. WebFLIS is available to DLA internal and external customers who have a Common Access Card (CAC), External Certificate Authority (ECA) or Federal Bridge authentication.

Users will be notified if an update to the executable file is required. Restricted data such as service unique data, proprietary data and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) data is not available in PUB LOG FLIS Search.
