Innovation in Marine Corps: 3D printing in aviation

IWAKUNI, Japan — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing website — U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Peter Jacobson, an aviation ordnance technician with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121, noticed a problem with corrosion of a bucket housing cover on the F35B Lightning II jet. He used additive manufacturing, also known as 3-D printing, to make an infrared countermeasure bucket housing cover preventing corrosion in the bucket housing while in Japan, where humidity is high during summer months.

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Ellsworth Air Force Base website — Kevin Goyer, a 28th Civil Engineer Squadron water quality program engineer, implemented a new flight line spill kit at Ellsworth Air Force Base to provide Airmen with a more efficient way to clean up fuel spills.

Workforce must follow rules set by Hatch Act

As local, state and federal elections approach, employees must be aware of the law restricting political expression in the federal workplace, during duty hours, or on federal property at any time. All civilian employees of DLA are required to abide by the Hatch Act of 1939.

Saving energy on DoD’s largest joint base

The U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center announced a new energy savings performance contract to increase energy resiliency at the Department of Defense’s largest joint base, Joint Base San Antonio in Texas, Sept. 28. As an execution agent for Joint Base San Antonio and Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Defense Logistics Agency Energy’s Installation Energy team awarded an Energy Savings Performance Contract.

Benjamin “Gil” Perkins inducted as the 2018 Hall of Fame recipient

Richmond, Va. — For his dedicated service and contributions to Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, Benjamin “Gil” Perkins, former DLA Aviation chief counsel was inducted into the 2018 DLA Aviation Hall of Fame Sept. 27. Perkins retired in 2015 after 34 years of service.
