A base in a box: 86th MMS keeps Air Force ready for action

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Ramstein Air Base website — Somewhere in the Luxembourg countryside, armed guards keep watch over a compound of non-descript warehouses and storage containers. Each warehouse in the facility holds a different surprise, but those coming in will find that most of these treasures are kept hidden under lock and key.

Soldiers of 3rd Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Regiment based in El Paso, Texas with first responders, the Cajun Navy and civilian volunteers tirelessly work points of distribution as relief teams to provide Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey more than 18,000 cases of water daily and nearly 320,000 pounds of ice, and tens of thousands of pounds of donated necessities, such as toilet paper, baby food and diapers, tarps, hygiene items, clothing and cleaning supplies, Sept. 3 2017.

In a few shops, however, a nice frosty one isn’t just encouraged, it’s required. The 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron opened a cryogenic production plant June 16, 2017, to increase the supply of liquid nitrogen and oxygen available to shops that rely on those chilly fluids.
