48th LRS Airmen recognized for inventory system

ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Royal Air Force Lakenheath website — The 48th Logistic Readiness Squadron’s new digital inventorying system highlighted the 48th Fighter Wing’s “Wing Strength” during the 2016 Unit Effectiveness Inspection.

Part of AFRL's Forward Operating Base of the Future demonstration is one complete expeditionary microgrid system at Basic Expeditionary Airmen Skills Training (BEAST), Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Monocrystalline silicon solar panels are placed on top of each tent for energy production. A trailer (center) holds the hardware, software and lithium ion batteries that form the smart grid and provide energy backup should the grid fail. Civil Engineering gearing up for spring road repairs

This can pose a big challenge to the 88th Civil Engineer Group teams responsible for maintaining the 120 miles of base roads on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Graduate school unveils new 3D metal printer

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. — Logistics In Action: Article originally appeared on the Maxwell Air Force Base website — The Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has been utilizing additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, to build prototypes with polymers for more than 30 years. On March 16, its Graduate School of Engineering and Management unveiled a new state-of-the-art metal additive manufacturing system that enables AFIT to digitally fabricate aerospace metal parts.
