Commentary: DLA Makes Me the Lucky One

Adults far into their career always say we are “the lucky ones” because we have a clean slate to start our careers in whichever direction we choose to push ourselves. However, for a while, I believed it was those successful career people who were the lucky ones.

2020 Solicitation for FY20 DLA Enterprise Rotation Program

The developmental assignments have been posted for the FY20 DLA Enterprise Rotation Program. Nominations are now being accepted. Enterprise assignments are cross-organizational, at the GS-11 through GS-15 level, and range in length from 3 to 12 months. Assignments are available at several locations throughout the Agency and begin in January 2020 or shortly thereafter.

Celebrating the Comeback of the Burning River, 1969-2019

To many, the Cuyahoga River fire on June 22, 1969 represents a turning point for environmental regulation. This river caught the attention of a nation due to excessive water pollution. Certainly not the worst, it was thrust to the forefront as a symbol of environmental degradation. With the formation of the U.S. EPA in 1970 and passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972, changes were in store for all waterways in the United States. In addition to the Clean Water Act, the Cuyahoga River was one of 43 Areas of Concern identified by the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. These programs and regulations were focused on improving the lives of those both in and near the water. Now 50 years later, how is this river doing in its recovery “fueled” by local, state and federal partners?

Understanding PTSD focus of seminar

DLA Land and Maritime EAP Manager Drew Henderson hosted a seminar on Understanding PTSD for associates June 25 in the Buckeye Room at DSCC. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, such as combat, a natural disaster, a car accident or sexual assault.

DLA Director of Acquisition Matthew Beebe visited DLA Land and Maritime for his bi-annual Senior Procurement Executive visit June 19. During his visit he facilitated a focus group with the acquisition workforce that included discussions on supply chain security, workforce development and acquisition specific system challenges.
