DLA Aviation instrumental in keeping Navy aircraft safely secured during rough sea operations

It takes skills and nerves of ice for a Navy pilot to take off and land an aircraft on a ship’s flight deck, essentially a miniature airfield, that is pitching, rolling and yawing in rough seas which these ships operate in. This feat poses a whole different set of challenges for helicopter pilots when they are called upon to meticulously hover over and securely set the bird down on a much smaller landing area of a destroyer, vice the almost four football field length of an aircraft carrier.

Marine Corps turns 245

On this day, in 1775, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed a resolution establishing the Marine Corps to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War. The recruiting headquarters was set up in the Tun Tavern on Water Street in Philadelphia, which is considered to be the birthplace of the Marines.

Flag Precedence: Why the Marine Corps is senior to the Navy

Anyone who has attended a military event or sat in a briefing where the Service flags are displayed should know that the order of precedence goes from left to right. The National Ensign followed by the Army, Marine Corps, Navy…wait. What? The Marine Corps is senior to the Navy in order of precedence even though it is an underling to the Department of the Navy? Is it because we can do more pull-ups? Run farther? Carry more weight? Have better looking uniforms? No. It’s a little debatable but seems to stem from a litany of historical events.

Honoring their sacrifice: Marine Corps turns 245

This year we celebrate the 245th Birthday of our Corps. On Feb 23, 2020 we commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima and the raising of our flag on Mount Suribachi. Iwo was a bloody, 36-day long chapter in the World War II Pacific saga as our brothers fought and died for control of the tiny atoll.

Navy Develops Unmanned Air System for Ship Cargo Resupply

DLA closes out fiscal 2020 with strong small business partnership

The Defense Logistics Agency exceeded its small business contracting goal for the eighth consecutive year by awarding more than 40% of its annual contract dollars to small businesses. Fiscal 2020 also marked the third year in a row that DLA exceeded $15 billion in contract awards to small businesses.
