DLA, military brief clothing industry partners on warfighter support plans

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Defense Logistics Agency is able to provide uniforms and equipment to warfighters with the support of the Clothing and Textiles supply chain’s industry partners, the C&T director told those partners Oct. 19.

Troop Support Pacific provides mobile galley to Pearl Harbor sailors

PHILADELPHIA — A Navy submarine crew was one of the first to enjoy fresh meals served from a new mobile galley at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam that was purchased through DLA Troop Support.

Army Lt. Col. Debra Hernandez, the first nutritionist in the Subsistence supply chain, works in her DLA Troop Support office in Philadelphia. Hernandez, a registered dietitian, uses her more than 25 years of experience to analyze products’ ingredients and ensure they are meeting customer’s nutritional needs.

Food advisor adds nutritional value to Subsistence

PHILADELPHIA — Subsistence’s first nutritionist has helped DLA Troop Support offer healthier food items to military customers since arriving two years ago. Army Lt. Col. Debra Hernandez is a registered dietitian with more than 25 years of experience.

Staffers in Qatar have been working hard to lay boneyard residents to rest

Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar — Operation “Big Wheel” has been adding big numbers to scrap operations in Qatar with the arrival of 55 vehicles from the installation “boneyard” were scrapped onsite along with three truckloads of washers, dryers, bed frames and other miscellaneous scrap from Al Udeid Air Base.

Colorado scouts practice “reuse is recycling” mantra with used military goods

Peyton, Colorado — Boy Scout Troop 444 of Peyton, Colorado, takes the motto “be prepared” very seriously, and its scouts rely on DLA Disposition Services to acquire needed equipment.

Army Lt. Col. Paul McCullough, a special projects officer in DLA Troop Support Construction and Equipment, shares his family’s various bouts with life-threatening illnesses and with the assistance they received through CFC charities. DLA Troop Support employees donated more than $136,000 to CFC in 2015.

Employees ‘show some love’ during CFC kickoff event

PHILADELPHIA — A survivor of domestic violence shared how a local charity helped her during DLA Troop Support’s Combined Federal Campaign kickoff event Oct. 13. CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign and DLA Troop Support employees donated more than $136,000 through CFC last year.

DLA Disposition Services support Department of Veteran’s Affairs veteran stand down

Battle Creek, Michigan — Veterans Day was celebrated on October 21 in a small Battle Creek, Michigan, gymnasium with no flags, no band, and no speeches.

A South Carolina National Guard’s CH-47F Chinook helicopter assigned lands at the Whale Branch Early College High School and delivers water and food supplies to the community of Seabrook in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew Oct. 9. DLA Troop Support provided meals for 6,000 Marine recruits who were evacuated before the storm from Paris Island, South Carolina to Albany, Georgia. Hurricane Matthew peaked as a Category 4 hurricane in the Caribbean and hit the S.C. coast on Oct. 7.

Troop Support provides food, helipad materials for Hurricane Matthew relief

PHILADELPHIA — As the Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort deployed to support Hurricane Matthew relief efforts, it did so with a timely re-supply of food by DLA. “DLA Troop Support is uniquely positioned to respond to crises like Hurricane Matthew at a moment’s notice with world class logistics,” said Victor Harmon, DLA Troop Support Customer Operations.

PHILADELPHIA — DLA Troop Support celebrated the Navy’s 241st birthday and the service’s tradition, pride and core values after a senior leader staff meeting Oct. 11.

Iwakuni, Japan — With the end of summer came the transition from the Marine Corps’ old Temporary Lodging Facility at Iwakuni, Japan, as furniture and other items not needed for the new building made their way to their temporary lodging at DLA Disposition Services.
