Senior DOD leaders discuss clothing and textiles support

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Senior logistics leaders from the Department of Defense, including Defense Logistics Agency and military services, discussed clothing and textiles management during an executive board meeting Nov. 17.

Four new inductees honored at DLA Troop Support Hall of Fame ceremony

PHILADELPHIA — Four individuals were added to the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Hall of Fame and join the exclusive ranks of some of the organization’s finest former employees. The contributions of Mara Bailey, John McAndrews, Gary Shute and Army Col. John Smith to the agency and the workforce were honored during an induction ceremony Nov. 29.

The last of the Army Hueys fly off to active retirement

Battle Creek, Michigan — After six decades of service, the Army is retiring what are thought to be the last of its flying UH-1 “Huey” Iroquois helicopters.

Small Tribes of Western Washington, based in Lakewood, is one of 125 Native American organizations with members whose fruits and vegetables are delivered by regional produce companies working on DLA Troop Support contracts as part of the USDA Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.

DLA, DHA, services collaborate to improve military healthcare through standardization

PHILADELPHIA — Medical standardization across DOD improves clinical outcomes, enhances readiness and training, controls costs and improves DOD-wide interoperability, a DHA official said as more than 100 military medical professionals gathered in Philadelphia recently for a standardization workshop.

DLA delivers Thanksgiving meals to troops overseas

PHILADELPHIA — American troops serving around the world will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, thanks to the Defense Logistics Agency. More than 14,968 pounds of turkey and 8,712 pies, including sweet potato and pumpkin, have been delivered to troops in Afghanistan.

PHILADELPHIA — The Marine Corps’ highest-ranking officer visited DLA Troop Support Nov. 2 to learn more about the organization and how it supports America’s Marines.

DLA, military brief clothing industry partners on warfighter support plans

CHERRY HILL, NJ — The Defense Logistics Agency is able to provide uniforms and equipment to warfighters with the support of the Clothing and Textiles supply chain’s industry partners, the C&T director told those partners Oct. 19.

Troop Support Pacific provides mobile galley to Pearl Harbor sailors

PHILADELPHIA — A Navy submarine crew was one of the first to enjoy fresh meals served from a new mobile galley at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam that was purchased through DLA Troop Support.

Army Lt. Col. Debra Hernandez, the first nutritionist in the Subsistence supply chain, works in her DLA Troop Support office in Philadelphia. Hernandez, a registered dietitian, uses her more than 25 years of experience to analyze products’ ingredients and ensure they are meeting customer’s nutritional needs.

Food advisor adds nutritional value to Subsistence

PHILADELPHIA — Subsistence’s first nutritionist has helped DLA Troop Support offer healthier food items to military customers since arriving two years ago. Army Lt. Col. Debra Hernandez is a registered dietitian with more than 25 years of experience.

Staffers in Qatar have been working hard to lay boneyard residents to rest

Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar — Operation “Big Wheel” has been adding big numbers to scrap operations in Qatar with the arrival of 55 vehicles from the installation “boneyard” were scrapped onsite along with three truckloads of washers, dryers, bed frames and other miscellaneous scrap from Al Udeid Air Base.
